The Prudent Retiree - January 19th, 2024
Most likely, no one reading this was at Woodstock. Many of you, like me, may have seen the movie. If so, you’ll recall Sly’s unforgettable performance of “Dance to the Music”. The band was a pioneer of psychedelic soul and was one of the first multiracial and multigender rock groups. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
Happy New Year and wanna take you higher. The Prudent Retiree listens to the market and that is what we are hearing. 2023 was an exceptional year for stocks and the positive momentum is carrying over into 2024. There indeed remains much to worry about, but inflation has slowed, and the Fed has paused any further rate hikes. That could of course change, but for now the focus is on a resilient economy and determining when rate cuts might begin. Our allocation remains biased for growth. We’ve navigated two difficult volatile years and are happy to dance to the market’s music.
We are not disregarding caution and will change our position if the market changes. 2023 was certainly a year of turmoil and horror. Sadly, that also continues into 2024. It seems the world is a madhouse. Sly ended his set at Woodstock by encouraging his audience to “Throw up the peace sign, it’ll do you no harm.” Those were words to live by in 1969 and still are in the unsettled world of 2024.
