The Prudent Retiree - Decemeber 2019
“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle All the Way”
- “Jingle Bells” by James Lord Pierpont
Well, I always thought Santa Claus wrote that song. Indeed, the House of Representatives is dashing all the way and jingling the bells of Impeachment. Next month there will be a trial in the Senate. Washington, D.C. has been transfixed by all the hoopla, but the market seems unconcerned. Raw numbers decide things in D.C. Democrats control the House so impeachment has been a foregone conclusion. Republicans control the Senate so acquittal is probably a foregone conclusion, too.
Politicians can count. Cynically, we wonder what’s the point? Our concern is the market’s response to all this. Remember, don’t confuse politics with portfolios. The economy is strong, employment is booming and interest rates are near record lows. The market’s response is “Happy Holidays!” Stay invested as you are and look for opportunities to invest cash. We continuously monitor risk and will recommend change if necessary.
Prudent Retiree hopes that you, your family and loved ones are laughing all the way through this holiday season. Horseman Group wishes you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year.
