It all started with Dylan. Many of the greatest singer/songwriters and bands of the last fifty years have stated that Bob Dylan was their compass. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Poet Laureate, Noble Prize winner—what’s left to achieve? Yet at 78 years old, he is still on the road telling the story of America.
As I followed last week’s impeachment hearings and recalled everything that teed them up, starting with the Mueller Investigation, I thought of Dylan. Oh, Mama, could this be the end? Please? Sadly, as Dylan wrote, “Deep inside my heart, I know I can’t escape.” If you are like Prudent Retiree, you are changing the channel. Much easier to make out the good and bad guys in a CSI rerun.
Fortunately, the D.C. Drama has not impacted the market up to now. The robust economy continues to move stock prices higher. Low interest rates make stocks a compelling choice. A low inflation rate continues to fuel expansion. China and trade remain the potential obstacles to continued growth. Negotiations seem to be moving forward and for the moment that’s enough for the market. Remain invested as you are and be alert to the risks.
I’ll leave you with Dylan’s thoughts on the D.C. Drama. “An’ now people just get uglier an’ I have no sense of time.” I cringe knowing there is still more to unfold in this national embarrassment. Dylan has been compared to Shakespeare so we’ll just say “a pox on both their houses.”
