The Prudent Retiree - What's Going On Part XIII

We are all unsettled by COVID-19 and how our lives are being upended. We’re largely confined and plans are on hold. Over 30 million Americans have lost their jobs. The corona death count goes higher daily. We have no idea when this will end—when we’ll get our jobs and lives back, when we’ll be safe. This uncertainty breeds fear. Are the good times really over for good?  

Merle Haggard was one of Country Music’s greatest singer/songwriters. He lived a hard life with many ups and downs. He performed until the end. In this song, he lamented that things weren’t the way they used to be and wondered if change would only be worse.  

That is what we’re all wondering now. Day to day, the COVID-19 situation seems pretty grim. However, there is progress, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to all of those on the front lines who have worked tirelessly to help stabilize. They are heroes. Scientists and drug companies are working on many promising treatments. The Federal Reserve, the President and Congress are committed to doing whatever it takes to keep the economy on track. Innovative businesses are developing new ways to keep moving forward.       

Are the good times really over for good? Prudent Retiree thinks not. We believe the recovery is a matter of when, not if. The market has surged up over 30% since the low on March 23rd. The market is optimistic about the future. We listen to the market and intend to keep our current allocations. Of course that could change and we will let you know when we see it differently.
