The Prudent Retiree - What's Going On Part X
The market has rallied 25% from it’s low point a few weeks ago. That seems like forever. In that same period, the news has gotten worse. An unheard of 17 million new claims for unemployment, staggering numbers of new infections and tragically more people dying.
What gives? The market generally is looking to the future. The initial shocking drop anticipated all the bad news. The rising market seems to be looking to a recovery. Prudent Retiree is certainly glad that the market has moved higher. We must caution, though, that the worst may not be over and the road to recovery will be bumpy.
We still hold to our position that we’ve seen most of the worst. We also believe that risk management dictates the best course of action is to maintain your current equity exposure. More likely there could be more bad news that will cause market volatility to continue. It just won’t be a straight ahead recovery. We will monitor the overall situation and make recommendations that are warranted.
This past weekend I scored some Charmin and Bounty. A big win. Today is my wife’s birthday and our kids and grandkids are going to surprise her with a social distancing, yard birthday party.
If I could only listen to the music of one band for the rest of my life, it would be the Grateful Dead. In their song, “A Touch of Grey”, they sing in the refrain, “We will survive, we will survive.”
We will.
