The Prudent Retiree - What's Going On Part VIII
Finally, some relief. The market had a strong upsurge on Tuesday. Congress appears to have an agreement to enact a massive stimulus program to help workers and businesses. The devil will be in the details.
We still believe we have seen most of the worst in the market. That does not mean it won’t go lower. The rally is good, but we fully expect further volatility and additional ugly days. We think maintaining current allocations is the wisest decision based on where we are now. There is more risk getting out than staying in.
The damage to the economy is just beginning. Businesses are closing, personal movement is restricted and many are losing jobs. The market drop is reflecting increased unemployment and most likely a recession.
There is a reason for hope. The Fed has acted aggressively. Congress seems to be doing their part by providing stimulus. The full impact of these actions won’t be felt until the medical situation is in hand. Our medical and scientific communities are working around the clock to find a solution. We owe an unpayable debt to our first responders and hospitals and medical personnel.
What’s going on is that we are maintaining current positions and monitoring how to best respond to risk.
