There is something happening here in the market and it is not exactly clear how it will play out. Certainly, we see reason for concern. So far, there is no Santa Claus rally this year. Santa Claus seems to be putting coal in the market’s stocking.

Buffalo Springfield is a Hall of Fame Rock-n-Roll band. “For What It’s Worth” was a searing hit song released in 1966, a time of social unrest, racial turbulence and the Vietnam War. A time of instability, the kind of environment the market doesn’t like.

If you read the lyrics, you may well believe “For What It’s Worth” was just written yesterday. It is America today. It’s difficult during these times to not react with emotion. The market declines of the past couple months are downright scary.

Every day is decision day in the market. Today, we are deciding to hold our position. Our risk metrics have certainly weakened and we don’t discount that the “something happening here” may be the beginning of a bear market. The discipline of our process won’t allow us to say that yet. We still believe this to be a correction that will stabilize. We will listen to the market and hope that things will soon be clear. We’ll respond to whatever the market tells us.
