The Prudent Retiree - August 28, 2021

“There has to be a price to pay.”

-       Jeh Johnson, President Obama’s Secretary of Homeland Security; 8/26/2021

By now, we have all seen or heard about the horrific events at Kabul Airport. At least thirteen American servicemen have been killed. Scores more wounded. This is a fraught situation without a clear direction forward. Certainly, this is beyond politics as usual. Democrats, Republicans and Independents are all asking questions. Secretary Johnson expressed the sentiment of many that this heinous act can’t go unpunished. Prudent Retiree believes that the lives of Americans and our allies have to be protected. That is what should determine when the mission is over. We hope our leaders have the requisite wisdom and honor to carry it out. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the brave men and women who serve selflessly.

The market is down slightly today. So far, no price to pay in our investments. We will continue to monitor the situation and make changes if warranted. These awful events will probably not spill over into the market unless the situation spirals out of control. Let us hope for a peaceful resolution and the safety of all those stranded.
