The consensus among aficionados is that Jimi Hendrix was the greatest rock guitar player ever. He followed in the tradition of Delta Bluesmen and adopted their style into his own unforgettable sound. He closed at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and his passionate version of the Star-Spangled Banner still resonates today. He was a true pioneer who changed music forever.

Hendrix was in the vanguard of psychedelic rock and “If 6 was 9” was one of his most bizarre compositions that proclaimed he was free to live as he chose no matter the values of conservative society. Tragically, he was a member of the 27 club—a group of musicians who died when they were 27 from drug or alcohol abuse. Hendrix is gone, but his music remains. Radio stations pay tribute to him during Black History Month.

Prudent Retiree doesn’t care if hippies cut off all their hair. We don’t care about the non-stop verbal and written haranguing from pundits of all stripes. Many of them reside in a purple haze. Yes, we know we are in a pandemic and there is a second impeachment trial. Yes, we know the economy is struggling and vaccine distribution is not going smoothly. Yes, we know we are a divided and angry country.

I don’t care, I don’t care as all this relates to the market. Prudent Retiree cares about what the market is saying. Prudent Retiree cares about what the Fed is doing. Market metrics and Fed policy remain favorable for equites. We encourage you to maintain current allocations.

Many commentators want you to think that 6 is 9. That sort of thinking can trip you up. We are listening and will advise when the song ends and it’s time to turn the record over.
