The Prudent Retiree - What's Going on Part XXXIII
About half way through the Presidential debate, I wanted to turn off my television, relax and listen to The Beatles. We did not witness a debate. It was a barroom brawl. The first debate I watched was Nixon-McGovern in 1972. I’ve seen them all since and none compared to this spectacle. Who knows who “won?” Does it matter? The debate most likely changed nothing and the election is still too close to call.
How did the market like the debate? It was up strongly yesterday. Take that lesson to heart—market movement is not correlated to political ebbs and flows. Investment decisions can’t be made based on our political opinions. Market metrics remain positive so maintain your current equity allocations. We do intend to reduce our equity allocation before the election. We want to be prudent and proactive in the event an unknown outcome causes chaos. Uncertainty is no friend of the equity market.
It is being reported today that the format and rules of the next two debates may be changed. Prudent Retiree suggests bringing in Vince McMahon of World Wrestling Entertainment fame. He can arrange a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match for the next one. We can all turn off, relax and float downstream to November 3.
That’s what is going on.
